Soft Cast

What is soft cast?

Soft cast is a particular type of cast which is comprised of a more flexible type of material, with a strong strip of reinforcement. Don’t let the name fool you – they are still great at healing your injury, they just are slightly more flexible than the traditional plaster cast.

Can I still draw on it?

Yes! The ways to look after your cast are exactly the same whether its soft cast or a regular cast. Check out our FAQ page for answers to common cast questions!

Is it only used due to Covid-19?

Soft casts have been used before the pandemic, but as a result of this year’s events, we have seen an increase in its use. This is because it reduces the number of people coming back into hospital, protecting us all!

One of the best things about these casts is there is no need for the loud machine used to remove the traditional casts.

Your doctor will give you a date to remove your cast at home, all you need is your parents and a pair of scissors. Make sure you always have an adult to help before trying to remove your cast!
